Alternative Education
ATC Train ME provides an education that the young people can accept and achieve in, giving them the chance to develop their talents. Ages range from 13 to 16 and there are usually up to 36 students on our courses at any one time. All Train Me alternative education students will have an Individual Education Plan which allows our dedicated team to plan pathways back to school, youth training programmes or into employment.

  Training Opportunities and Youth Training
Trainme is contracted by The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) to provide free education and training with the goal to get Youth and Adults into employment or further training. 

Who the courses are for and what students should expect to achieve:

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES (TOPs) – Adult Courses – 18 years +

TOPs courses are designed for adults who are currently:

    • unemployed and
    • low qualified/ skilled person’s

Adults who participate on a TOPs course should expect to:

    • Increase employment opportunities, and/ or
    • Gain qualifications and skills, and/ or
    • Move onto further training

YOUTH TRAINING

Youth Training courses are designed for:

    • 16 & 17 year old school leavers (some 15 and 18 year olds may be eligible, ask us to check your eligibility)
    • Youth with low qualifications

Youth who participate on our Youth Training courses should expect to:

    • Increase employment opportunities, and/ or
    • Gain qualifications and skills, and/ or
    • Move onto further training

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES (TOPs) COURSES

Security Officer Training
A 12 week course with a fast track to gaining employment in an industry where demand for workers is high.  Work towards gaining a National Certificate in Security Level 2. 

  • To date we have placed 80% of students into employment.
  • Students have gained employment with Telecom, Waikato Hospital, WINZ, Huntly Power Station, Armourguard and many more.

Welding Skills
Welding Skills is an excellent stepping stone into a job or an apprenticeship.

A Youth & Adult option with an introduction to:

  • Learning how to use Gas, Arc, Mig, Tig and Oxyacetylene machines
  • Downhand welding position

A Youth & Adult option
The focus here is on providing English language learning to empower students to live with more independence in NZ, with the ultimate goal for them to gain employment. 

  • Learn basic conversational and grammar skills
  • Learn how to find work in NZ

We now take students from beginner level upwards.

Heavy Transport License Course
Start your career in the HT industry.  Prepare and sit tests to attain a Class 2 License with P, D endorsements.

  • Complete units towards gaining a  “National Certificate in Employment Skills”
  • Explore career choices
  • Learner’s License

The “work ready” youth can gain support and advice on gaining entry into employment.

  • CV creation and updating
  • Advice on how to apply for jobs
  • Explore different ways to seek job opportunities
  • Learn job interviewing skills

  • Advice on career choices and employment pathways
  • Support with self-directed job finding.

Youth Music
A course designed to develop life skills.  Music is incorporated into the course as a way of creating excitement and interest while also gaining skills.  No music knowledge is necessary, just a passion to learn.
